How Much Water Are You REALLY Drinking Daily? 🥛

Our body weight is made up of somewhere between 50% – 70% water. So, it makes sense that water plays a major part in all your bodily functions. Most people understand that water is essential in removing waste when you sweat and pee. 

Yet many people don’t realise how important water is to your overall health:

☑️ Water regulates your body temperature

☑️ It protects your tissues

☑️ Your joints and spinal cord need it to stay cushioned and comfy

☑️ Your digestion needs it to break down food and absorb nutrients

☑️ Your blood needs it to flow

☑️ Amazingly 75 % of your brain tissue is water

And when you don’t drink enough you’ll get tired and foggy-headed and moody. 😡

So, how much water do you need to lubricate your body functions and maintain your health? Well, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recommends that men consume 3.7 liters (15.5 cups) and women get 2.7 liters (11.5 cups) of fluids per day. This can come from water, beverages in general, and food (such as fruits and vegetables). 

Although this is good guidance, as we all come in different shapes and sizes and do different levels of activity, a Urine Colour Test may be a better indication of how hydrated you are. 

What is the colour of your urine telling you?

😍 If it is very pale yellow to light yellow, you’re well-hydrated

 💧 Darker yellow is a sign of dehydration

🛑 Brown or cola-coloured urine is likely to be a medical emergency, and you should seek medical attention immediately

You may not know that you are dehydrated. Symptoms of mild dehydration are so common that we may think it’s normal and ignore the signs. An indication that you need more water can include feeling thirsty, dry mouth, itchy eyes, feeling hungry, headache, stiffness, dizziness, and fatigue. 

So, are you getting 2.7 liters of water a day? Remember, coffee and sodas don’t count towards your total. Perhaps it’s time to create a new water habit. Your body and bladder will love you for it.
